This small difference in amino acids leads to different protein breakdowns during digestion. A1 beta-casein can break down into a peptide known as beta-casomorphin-7 (BCM-7), which has been linked to opioid-like effects and certain health issues.

On the other hand, A2 beta-casein doesn\’t degrade into BCM-7 and is believed to be easier to digest and less likely to cause problems.

A1 and A2 differ by the placement of an amino acid at the 67th position of the protein chain. 1. Milk addiction
